You may know what to do to safeguard your collections in an emergency, but could you manage the impact on your staff, volunteers, and yourself?
Disasters don’t just affect buildings and collections. The impact on dedicated staff can be enormous. The immediacy of an emergency situation puts huge pressures on staff to make quick decisions at a time when their judgement will not be at its best.
This course will help you understand the psychological and emotional impacts that emergency situations are likely to have and mitigate their effects. It includes a case study from the devastating floods at Kelham Island Museum in 2007, plus advice and strategies from professional stress management experts that will help you manage your own stress and that of others.
Speakers
John Hamshere, Director, Kelham Island Museum Simon Pickvance, Senior Adviser at Sheffield Occupational Health Advisory Service and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield Paul Turner, Stress Check Training
