The National Coal Mining Museum for England invites you to The Narrator’s Gaze, fifty years of documentary photography. This special event is being held in association with Northern Soul, a new exhibition featuring the work of renowned photographer and filmmaker, John Bulmer.
A pioneer of colour photography during the 1960s, Bulmer’s work was included in the very first colour supplement launched by The Sunday Times. In 1965, the newspaper published a special issue entitled ‘The North’, which has inspired both the exhibition and the symposium. The Narrator’s Gaze celebrates fifty years since Bulmer first began recording England’s industrial heritage. Chaired by Colin Harding, Curator of Photographic Technology at the National Media Museum, keynote speakers include practitioners whose work spans each of the last five decades.
Cost - £15 per symposium or £25 for both events (including refreshments and tour of exhibition). Concessions - £10 per symposium or £15 for both events (students*, claimants, state pensioners and registered disabled). * please note all students need to hold and provide a valid NUS card on collection of tickets.
