Who is this course for?

It is aimed at museum and art gallery staff who have responsibility for starting, developing and/or improving the museum website and associated social media.

There will also be a workshop session where you can bring your internet issues for advice

Who will be running it?

It will be coordinated by David Miller, a management trainer with over 30 years of experience in the public sector, YHFed Freelance Training Officer and the lead trainer on Next Generation.

The experienced speaker will be:-
Jim Semlyen, Managing Director of Castlegate IT, a web development company based in York.
Jim has been involved with web development since 1995 when the World Wide Web first entered the public eye.

Castlegate IT create and maintain high-quality websites which are accessible, useable and standards compliant.

The company develops bespoke content management systems (CMSs), based on open source software, for clients from the charitable, private and government sectors.

Castlegate’s partnership with York Museums Trust resulted in a network of websites, managed by a multi-site CMS and integrated with their collections management software.  This enables online examination of the tens of thousands of artefacts and exhibits in York Museums Trust’s varied collections.

What will it cost?

The course is priced at a very modest £15 for Fed members and £20 for non-fed members.  Coffee and tea will be provided and lunch is available to purchase. There will also be 3 free places for volunteers, from organisations who are YHFed members available on a first come first served basis.

Where is it?

It will be located at the easily accessible York Castle Museum. Refreshments will be provided and lunch available to purchase.
