Membership Benefits

What you get for your money!

All Fed activities are organised by its members; people who are actively engaged in museums and galleries in some way.  That is what keeps the Fed so focused on what really matters to the sector and to you!  You can become involved as little or as much as you wish, but either way the benefits of membership are clear to see:

Themed General meetings -
Held at venues throughout the region.  Each meeting includes: Fed Forum at which the Executive reports back to the members; papers and discussions focussing on current topics of interest; tours (often behind the scenes) of the host museum or gallery.

Fed News -
Currently an E-bulletin for news and views contributed by members on the latest issues and developments across the region, plus information and speakers’ presentations from the themed general meetings.

Sector Specific Training ‘Museums Essentials’, a lively programme of training events held at venues around the region to fulfil your development needs and requests.

Regional Conference - A bi-annual event run in partnership with the Hub for everyone working in museums and galleries in the region.  The event offers a mix of keynote speeches from sector leaders, lively and inspirational presentations, informed debate and workshops on current topics.

Your Voice in the Region!

The Federation exists to represent the views and interests of its members on the regional and National stage and is a key part of Yorkshire's museums and galleries landscape.  As a regional membership organisation it has a focus that the Museums Association is unable to have.  This is recognised by the MA, which is now working in partnership with Federations across the country to help them to communicate with a wider audience.  The Federation is also developing formal links with Yorkshire Renaissance, the region's Museum Hub.  Our role here is to raise issues with the Hub that are of concern to, or impact upon the region's museums, and to ensure that the Hub's plans reflect the needs of the wider museum community. MLA is the agency for our sector and the Federation has enjoyed excellent working relationships with their officers.   We work closely in organising training events, using the needs of Federation members to help the identification of training and development priorities.  Formal meetings are held with relevant MLA officers to discuss issues relating to the museum profession in the region and to share information.
