The Museum sector is great at celebrating our successes. We are also fantastic at dealing with the difficult, the unexpected, and the disastrous.

This session is focused on exploring when things went wrong or challenges presented themselves, either due to an unexpected event, random chance or a series of factors. We will look openly and honestly about what happened, how we overcame (or not) the problem and what we (and others) can learn from this. The session will feature three speakers who will share their experiences after which there will be a chance for discussion and questions. Full details of the presentations will be announced shortly. The FED AGM will follow (all members will be notified in advance with details).

‘Changing Culture, Changing Assumptions’

How do you change your corporate culture and the way you work when you haven’t correctly identified your existing corporate culture? Taking a look at how a misidentified set of assumptions caused a significant shift in a project to shift our culture and how we overcame (mostly) the issues to achieve a good outcome.

11.45am –  Speaker 2 – John Tanner (Museum and Heritage Project Manager for Barnsley Museums)

‘Looking Back: A Decade of Barnsley Museums’

2018 marks ten years since four museums were first brought together into a jointly managed service – Barnsley Museums. Since then, they’ve been joined by a fifth – the first-ever museum of Barnsley, which opened in 2013. It has been a decade of achievements and excitement, and intense development and planning, but facing up to challenges and overcoming adversity too. This talk provides frank and honest insights into the journey so far and what the future might hold.
